Last week was the famous Valentine’s Day. So I wanna know, how do you celebrate? Is it something you like and want to celebrate or would you rather pretend it’s just a normal day?

Me I’ve avoided the day like the plague for years. It felt like crap always piled up on our near that day every year. Till one year when my now husband asked me to be his Valentine. Thats when it all changed.

We never wanted to do anything very big. Cause restaurants are always overly busy and it feels like they are rushing you out. Then there’s the gifts. For us we have 4 birthdays in 2 months and Christmas, so by the time we get around to February it feels like the pocket book is empty.

That made me decide we needed a nice simple evening. Before we had kids we always did a fancy desert or made a favorite meal at home. But now we try to do something the kids can join in on too. Below you’ll find some of the fun date nights we like to do with the kids. Bonus they are easy to pull together and you don’t need to spend a bunch of money on them.

  1. Movie night. Rent a new movie, one that everyone will enjoy. Throw some pillows and blankets on the floor. Pop up some popcorn, maybe even make it fancy popcorn. By adding chocolate sauce, pretzels, and some nuts.
  2. It’s just another day. Do your normal evening stuff. A dinner you normally make. The things you normally do every night. But plan an extra special desert. Some of our favorites are chocolate fondue, lava cake, or ice cream and cookies.
  3. Plan an at home dinner. But don’t just make it a dinner for you and the kids, invite over the parents or some friends. This is what we do. We go to my parents house and have dinner with them. We get to spend time with those we love and thats what the day is all about.
  4. Pretend the power is out. Order some takeout and eat it by candle light. Spend some time just talking about anything and everything. Show the kids that you don’t need power to have a fun time. As an added bonus keep the fun going till you go to bed. Candles in the bedroom are so romantic.
  5. Family paint night. This is great to do with the kids. All you need is some canvases for the adults and some paper for the kids, and paint. I’m suggesting paper because it costs less and they’ll probably paint faster. You can find supplies at any craft store.

I’d love to hear any date nights you’ve done with the whole family. Or if you do something special for those special holidays. Let me know in the comments bellow.
